How To Connect With Your Higher Self

Have you ever felt a gentle inner knowing, something beyond your thoughts and emotions that reminds you of who you truly are? That’s your higher self. It’s the purest, most elevated version of you, and even when it feels distant, it’s always within you. In this post, we’ll explore how to connect with your higher self, why the connection sometimes feels blocked, and how simple spiritual practices like yoga and mantra can help clear the way back to deeply feeling this connection.

The Body, Mind, Soul Connection

Connection is all around us. The most simple example is one I talk about often: the body, mind, soul connection. These three elements are inherently united in this human experience, yet we often think of them as separate. I believe this is largely because so much of our focus in modern day is on external forces. Many of us have become so fixated on the external world that we forget to look inward.

And when your attention is only directed outward, it’s hard to feel the harmony and connection of body, mind, and soul. Without taking time to turn your attention within, it can be challenging to connect with your higher self, (also sometimes called ‘highest self’.)

Your Higher Self Is Already Within You

Just because you might not be currently feeling your connection with your higher self, this doesn’t mean that it’s not there. The external world may cloud our vision, but this deeper part of you lives within you always. It’s not some far off entity, it’s the truth of who you are.

Your higher self is your most elevated form of consciousness. It’s your pure connection to the divine, the universe, or whatever name you give to something greater. This elevated awareness is always a part of you, even if it feels hard to access at times. I repeat this because it’s so important to remember that your highest self already exists within.

When the connection to your higher self is clear, meaning you’re not letting external distractions or limiting beliefs cloud your view, you experience a sense of deep peace and fulfillment. I’m not saying it’s easy; the world presents us with many distractions that will challenge us to keep this view of our highest self clear. But simply knowing that your higher self is always present is the first step toward feeling that connection more often.

Tools That Support the Connection

Your higher self is the most enlightened version of who you are. Imagine it as a bright, steady light within you, your truest essence, untouched by the stress and noise of everyday life. While the body and mind are important tools for navigating the world, they are just that, tools. And when used mindfully, they help you return to your center and connect with your higher self.

One of the most powerful tools we have is yoga. Practicing yoga in a holistic way and in the way that it is intended to be practiced, helps us strengthen this connection. It allows us to see the divine within ourselves and others.

And by holistic, I mean remembering that yoga is not just a physical workout, it’s a spiritual practice that unites your body, mind, and soul. When you approach it this way, you’re not only improving your physical and mental health, but you’re also deepening your relationship with your higher self.

Clearing the Fog of Illusion (Maya)

It’s through consistent practice that we begin to see beyond the illusions of the world. These illusions are often referred to as maya, which I’ve written about in another post which you can find here: Maya In Yoga

As an overview, maya is like a veil that distorts our view. It’s an illusion that keeps us from seeing clearly, like a foggy lens over the truth. This ancient concept helps explain why we sometimes feel disconnected from our higher self.

Think of maya as a thick fog that rolls in while you’re driving. You know the road is there, but you can’t see it clearly. That’s what happens when your connection to your higher self is clouded. Even though it’s always there, the fog of daily life can obscure your vision.

Practices like yoga and meditation help clear this fog so you can begin to see and feel your higher self with more clarity and confidence.

Chanting ‘Om’ To Connect With Your Higher Self

Your higher self is pure love. It doesn’t know fear, doubt, or separation. It’s that part of you that always remembers your divine nature. One powerful way to reconnect with this essence is through chanting ‘Om’.

‘Om’ is considered the sound of the universe, the vibration that connects all things. When you chant it, you’re tuning into that universal frequency. It quiets the mind, softens the ego, and brings your energy into alignment with something greater.

This sacred sound isn’t just a chant; it’s a direct pathway to connect with your higher self.

Remembering Your True Nature

Your higher self is always with you, just beneath the surface, gently waiting to be remembered.

It’s here to guide you with love, wisdom, and clarity.

So, take time to pause and return to deeply knowing this connection. Whether it’s through a few conscious breaths, getting on your yoga mat, a meditation practice, or chanting the sound of ‘Om,’ you always have access to this connection.

Let this be your gentle reminder:
You don’t need to become someone new.
You only need to remember who you already are.
Your higher self is within you, always.
