Reiki is one of those healing techniques where people either love it or…..they think it’s nonsense. But what’s the real answer, does reiki actually work? Can reiki help with healing? Learn more in this post!
What is Reiki?
Reiki originated in Japan therefore “reiki” is a Japanese word. When we translate reiki to English, it helps us understand what this practice is all about. The first part of the word “Rei” relates to a higher power. “Rei” can also be defined as ‘spiritually guided’. The second part of the word “ki” means life force energy.
So “reiki” is the guidance of spiritual life force energy. A reiki practitioner channels this life force energy from a higher power into whatever they are intending to heal. This can be another person, an animal, a plant, themselves, or this energy can also be guided toward the collective.
Similar to the practice of yoga, this higher power does not have a specific name. Some call it the divine, some call it the universe, some call it God. The name doesn’t matter, it’s about the intention of connecting with this higher power of love and bringing it into our material world.
You can think of Reiki as a transfer of energy. The energy transferred with Reiki is pure beautiful loving energy, intended to help for the highest good.
Everything in our world is made up of energy, including you. Since we are energy, energy healing such as Reiki can be really impactful. Energy healing can help with healing the entire being, body, mind, spirit, and emotions.
Although reiki is a healing practice, it is not intended to replace modern medicine but to be used in addition to it.
I used to be skeptical too..
If you’re still feeling skeptical about if Reiki works after reading that description, I feel you. Before I began to open up to my own spiritual side, I thought Reiki was BS.
I specifically remember first hearing about Reiki at a yoga studio I was going to and thinking, how the f is that doing anything. Oh how times have changed.
Once I started my own spiritual journey, my perspective towards Reiki healing started to change.
Since there are limited studies on Reiki, I figured I would share with you my own experience. Then, you can then make your own conclusion on whether or not Reiki works.
Everyone can access Reiki energy
I’m trained in Reiki but how I got there wasn’t because I was totally sold on it.
My sister has been someone who’s been very in tune with energy since she was young. We both had been working on our spirituality and I was already yoga certified so I thought, let’s take a Reiki class. I thought it would be cool to learn but I honestly signed up more for her.
So we did our first Reiki training. An important point to remember is that anyone can do reiki. Some people may have a more natural inclination towards it, but everyone has the ability to do Reiki. In your Reiki training, your teacher will attune you to Reiki energy and then with practice, you learn how to access and direct this energy.
Reiki Healing Experience
So I did my Reiki training and at this time, one of my dogs had been dealing with some gallbladder issues. Gallbladder issues are much more scary in dogs than in humans because to remove the gallbladder in dogs is apparently very risky.
My dog’s vet tells me that he basically has a massive gallbladder. At this point I’m honestly freaking out. We try medication for a few months…..gallbladder is still massive.
I end up bringing him to a holistic vet and we try to add in herbal supplements….gallbladder is still is very large and she says she thinks he might need to do the surgery.
We go to the surgeon who says, “Yeah we can take it out.” I’m like “We can but should we??” I’m freaking out because I know how dangerous the surgery is. Since my dog didn’t have any other symptoms the surgeon says, “Let’s give it a month, do another scan and then decide.”
I go back home and think, I have one month, I’m going to do Reiki on this dog everyday until we go back for his next scan. And that’s what we do, Reiki everyday for a month and this dog LOVES Reiki. He’s literally the cutest Reiki client you’ve ever seen. I would start his Reiki session and within a few minutes he’d turn on his side like he was saying, ok now work on my gallbladder.
After one month, we went back for his scan. The surgeon calls me after and says she doesn’t think he needs surgery and that she doesn’t even need to follow up with him. What??? I ask how the gallbladder looked in comparison to the last scan and she said it actually got smaller.
So was it the Reiki sessions? I can’t say for sure but it does seem likely… This was at least 2 years ago. Now I give my sweet boy Reiki about once a week and he’s still doing well, what a blessing.
So does Reiki work?
I’ve had other wonderful experiences with Reiki but this was my first experience and it was so profound for me that I wanted to share it with you. And it’s not that I think Reiki should replace modern medicine, not at all. I think it should be used in addition to it.
So does Reiki work? I sure think it does.
I’ve gone from total skeptic to total believer. If you feel skeptical, that’s ok. If you are reading this post, I’m sure you are at least somewhat open to the idea of Reiki.
Keep learning and maybe one day you will be open to receive.
Sending you all love.
